| Marine Turtle Night Tour |
|
Departs from Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen or Cancun. This night tour invites you to the unique opportunity to come and see marine turtles lay their eggs on the beach! ![]() Marine turtles have lived in the oceans for over 100 million years. Although sea turtles live most of their lives in the ocean, adult females must return to beaches on land to lay their eggs. They often migrate long distances between foraging grounds and nesting beaches. Of the seven species of marine turtles in the world, four occur in the transparent waters of the Yucatan Peninsula: ![]() • Loggerhead Sea Turtle (Caretta caretta) • Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) • Hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricate • Leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) Every year from June to September these endangered marine turtles come to lay their eggs in the white sand beaches of the Mexican Caribbean coasts. Now this unique and amazing sight can be witnessed inside the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve! ![]() The tour starts at 7:30 pm when you are being picked up from your hotel. You will be driven to the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve where a brief explanation about marine turtles will be given by an experienced biologist. You will then join the biologists on a 3 to 4 hour hike on the beach looking for marine turtles laying eggs. In July we are able to start adopting and releasing new born turtles. An adoption certificate is given to our visitors with the name of the turtle they adopted. You will be back at your hotel between 1:30 and 3 am, depending on how many turtles you would like to see. ![]() ![]() Includes: Pick up and return from your hotel, naturalist or biologist guide, maximum 10 people per group, entrance fees, non-alcoholic beverages.
