Chunchucmil - Commercial Center of the MayaPosted by in maya |
Chunchucmil is one of the most perplexing of all the Mayan cities yet discovered by modern archaeologists, and one of the most important for our understanding of the way their individual city-based empires connected and interfaced. It is not characterized by monumental architecture, possessing few pyramids, stelea, or large monuments of any kind. It wasn't ruled by a famous king. It wasn't even built in a particularly favourable location – quite the contrary, according to modern scientists.
