The “vest” hangs over the bird’s highly recognizable dark-red chest feathers. When seeing this rare bird, it makes one wonder why it’s colored in such a fantastic way.

Thousands of gray whales from California migrate past the Belize Barrier Reef, through the shallow waters of Mexico. The gray whales migrate over 6,000 miles, relocating from the cold waters of the Bering Sea and Chukchi Sea during the winter season, to the warmer seas of the Baja California in the central Pacific coast.

The whales settle in the Scammon's Lagoon in Mexico from the middle of December to March, until they go back to their summer habitat in the Pacific. About 1,500 whales, which include the offspring, migrate every year.

One of the strangest birds among the Yucatan wildlife is the Ocellated Turkey. The Yucatan Ocellated Turkey has a bluish-purple head with a dark purple beak. Its body is covered in the same turquoise feathers, but they seem to dance with the light f the day almost as if they were metallic. It’s roughly the same size as the wild American Turkey. It is capable of flight because of its lightweight, wild Turkeys can fly unlike the popular belief that they cannot. The Ocellated Turkey will usually be found in the open plains or hiding among the other wildlife in the thick brush of the Yucatan.
