A travel writing best seller has brought Da Vinci’s last supper to the forefront again. Due to being painted with deteriorating oil paints, the historic artwork underwent a twenty-one year restoration process. Da Vinci’s technique is said to be flawless. His ability to capture the emotion of each figure, depicting their inner emotions is considered genius. The mural painting is full of symbolism and meaning. The mural hangs in a sealed, climate-controlled refectory of the Santa Maria Delle convent in Milan, Italy. To step inside and view the mural is to stand in the presence of majestic artistry.
Stop off Turkey for a mud bath in Dalyans. The rotten egg smell, though not exactly inviting, is worth putting up with for the exhilarating experience. The experience begins with a roll in the mud, literally. Once you are covered, you will bake in the sun until the mud cast hardens and cracks. Shower off and dunk yourself in the therapeutic warm water of the sulfur pool. Your skin will be tingling and soft. You will be so revitalized; the rotten egg stench of the sulfur pool seems to have dissipated.
Travel through Tunisia to Douz. The travel writing community notes this desert was a backdrop for star wars. The desert settlement is known as the Gateway to the Sahara. At the end of each year join in the celebration called the Festival of the Sahara. Thousands of people gather to smoke hookah, observe traditional crafts, and enjoy music and dance, as well as other events. Take in the juggling acts and the belly dancing events. The most incredible event held is the sport of camel fighting. The camels are paraded around with much ado as onlookers place their bets. As the camels start to eye each other they lock into battle.
